Different people will have different reasons to work at home which may be a combination of reasons with different priorities.

One of the most common reasons to stay at home is for the sake of children. Considering the cost of child minders and day care centers, it doesn't seem worth while for some moms to go to work and leave their infants in the care of child minders and day care centers. Twenty years ago or more, moms were left with no option but to quit their jobs to take care of their babies, despite the economic hardships a family had to face with one pay check gone. Work at home has become a blessing as moms are now able to take care of their children and still be able to work, managing their time effectively.

Even if the children are a little older and are going to school some moms would prefer to work at home as it is apparent how children who are unsupervised have got into all kinds of trouble. A mom being at home to see the children off to school and being available when they return gives the children a sense of belonging and a sense of love. When a mom is working from home she has the time to take the children for all their extra curricular classes and to all the visits that is required to meet with teachers and find out how your children are progressing. Moms may want to work from home so that the motherly duties are not neglected nor compromised for her career. This is an excellent balance.

Some may prefer to work from home as commuting to office is sometimes a nightmare given the traffic congestion in some cities added to the difficulty in finding parking. Several precious hours are lost while traveling to and fro to work which can be used to set off some of the working hours when you work at home.

Some may want to work at home simply because they enjoy being at home as there is so much more time in one’s hands to do other things they would like to do. Any employer will expect a certain amount of hours to be put in either on a daily basis or on a weekly basis and it wouldn’t matter to them how you achieve it. Once that is achieved the rest of the day or the week is yours. It is so much more relaxing.

Others may want to work at home because they want to go to college and with flexible hours of work, it will be much easier to manage their studies and work.

Some may want to work at home because their employers are encouraging them to do so and are willing to pay better incentives for that.

Whatever the reason, working at home is an excellent option for majority of people especially moms.
