Many first time website owners don't know the importance of keyword research and 90% of them end up failing because they choose the wrong keywords. It is important you start with long tail keywords since most of them can be optimized easily.

julieroos,

I absolutey agree. You need to choose the right keywords and relevant keywords. And there is a lot less competition for long tail keywords.

Great advice!!!

Definitely you need to first analyze the keywords and their search volume. You can use Google keyword Analysis Tool for keyword analysis.

True, long tail keywords are the best since they are easy to target but don't target more than 3 keywords on your homepage, target your deep links as well.

Hello there,

There are three types of keywords...

Primary Keywords

Secondary Keywords

Tertiary Keywords

So first you have to choose Primary Keywords after this you have to select from Secondary Keywords... Tertiary Keywords are the last keywords that not are not important to target..

I don't agree with you totally. Long tail keywords are easy to optimize and rank, but they have few or no global searches. So they won't drive you decent traffic even in top position. Instead keywords with medium competition and good searches should be focused.
