Hi everyone,
Hope all is well. It's been a very busy summer here! I had a question for all the parents on the forum and that is playing organized football or any other contact sport. Do you let your youngsters play or discourage it?
We have our two boys in football and they love it! The workouts are tough but both have risen to the occasion.
Let me know your position on this and hopefully we can trade stories!!!
Get up off it and get on with it!

How old are your boys Scott?
I think if they love it, then let them play as long as they are aware of serious injuries or risks that can occur and they know they can quit anytime if they were no longer interested in playing. I know you don't have to be involved in contact sports to get injured. You can pull a hamstring while doing track and field. You also said the workouts are tough, but they have risen to the challenge and have done well. It builds character, discipline, confidence and self-esteem and it just shows you how much they love the sport. They are doing well and certainly staying out of trouble which I think a lot of teens/young adults tend to get themselves into if they are bored.
Excellent job Scott on being supportive to your boys! _________________ Sophia

Hi there Scott,
Sounds like your boys are having a great summer.
I really encouraged my son to play soccer. He was very good at it and enjoyed it very much...played the sport for 6 years. He was even considering playing professionally. We...my husband and I, encouraged him, cheered him on and the whole bit.
Up until he had a knee injury. Since the injury, he hasn't been the same. He's played a little since then, but not much. Till this day even, he's in carpentry work and his knee still bothers him from time to time.
My son did come to the realization that he didn't want to play professionally...not so much because of the injury, but because it was too hard (he finally admitted).
He enjoyed the sport and made a lot of friends, I'm glad we encouraged him.
Just remind your boys to always take any precautions regarding injuries.

| i think parents must encourage kids to play any kind of sport. In that way they learn to be competitive but most important to loose if it is the case. |
