Not only do I have blogs but I also frequent other blogs of the same interest and make comments.
I also submit articles to online submission sites with a link to my blog in the sig file. If the article is of quality content, it draws people to check out more information I list on my blog.

I see so many people sitting in front of an html editor trying to get their website or blog to start flying ciricles around the competition on Google, and I just sit back and laugh.
In most of the research i have done, I have found that the ones "following the rules" of site side SEO are really not getting the type of results i thought they would be gettting. I have however, found that plenty of sites with poor PR and not a meta tag touched are able to drive traffic to their site in large number using other people's websites as the source of their success.
I back link on several blogs and forums that I know are popular in my genre (such as this one), that have great Google standing and a superior reader base. It can take me a few minutes to put a link on a popular website, or I can SEO the hell out of my own content and pray that the Google Gods don't "slap" me for something stupid. It would only take me about 6 weeks, or the next spider crwal to find out. I prefer the 5 minute method. This website is #1 for "work at home" on Google. There are only about 215,000,000 other sites for this keyword. At the end of this post, I will have one more back link, one click away from Google keyword page one, and much closer than the new website trying to compete directly for the term.
I won't sell many SEO toolkits by telling people that keyword optimization is a waste of time, but I won't waste my time trying to find out that 3 people search for "working at home in my pajamas" either. I prefer to get closer to the 600,000 that searched Google for "work at home" last month. Traffic rolls downhill, and to get bigger, you need friends in high places, not more competition with them.
Hand picked backlinks with unique content seems to be the best bet in my traffic arsenal at this time. It is the best for the Internet user in general, as the content you pepper other sites with will be picked up by engines sooner or later, and only help the site that you used to drive traffic, and your unique content will ad value to both you and the parner site you write for.
I don't mind helping those bigger than me get even bigger, as I benefit also.
Tim. |

Yet another informative post. Thanks for sharing your information.
I inadvertently started marketing my latest website as you mentioned. With my first site I tried my best to SEO it (after I learned what it meant). I went back to tweak articles and design, etc., etc. It's still not properly SEO'd.
My latest site, I wrote about what I wanted, the way I wanted and decided not to hope and pray that Google indexes me. Instead, I took a page from your book and decided to go out into the internet and get quality backlinks.
In the process I've learned so much from various forums and blogs. Additionally, I find that posting in forums and reading informative posts like Timothy's is much more rewarding than sitting and waiting for Google.
Additionally, when Google does an algorithm dance, it won't affect my traffic as much because I'm generating a following outside of the usual Google traffic flow. I think its a lot healthier for my site. _________________ No Job For Mom . How I left the rat race for the work at home pace. |

I am happy with the result as i only started in 1 April 08 _________________ Cherie Ang

There are many ways to get f.ree traffic to your blog,
but using a blog is a better idea than using an ordinary
website. And not all blogs are the same either. If you
use a wordpress blog thats .org not wordpress.com.
You own the org blog with your own domain. Using
keywords with this type blog gets you SEO spiders to
your blog. You can get trackback links from other wp
blogs back to your blog too.
You also can use other types of blogs like blogger
which is f.ree and wordpressdirect blogs with your
own domain and have links back to your wordpress
blog. Also link back to a squeeze page with an autoresponder.
If you can do that then you might use traffic exchanges with
a squeeze page . There are so many ways to get traffic,
these are only a few. _________________ Kathryn Maclean

Hi,
There are beneifts to having your blog hosted on blogger and wordpress. I use both.......dont be so quick to dismiss blogger.com as its owned by Google....
Take care

I use Blogger.com, Wordpress hosted and un-hosted. I suggest everyone have their main blog hosted on their server. Blogs tend to disappear when hosted by Blogger and Wordpress.com
I've learned my lesson
I digress...
I'm using social sites for traffic...MySpace, Facebook, Squidooo etc...
