There is an incredibly powerful book out by Malcolm Gladwell called "Outliers"
Gladwell talks about how what looks like luck is actually powerful structures that are not apparent and therefore look like luck.
He is of the belief that it takes 10,000 hours of doing something to gain a level of success.
He sights the Beatles instant success in the US invasion. Showing that what made them so great together was not luck but 10 to 14 hours a day seven days a week for months in a German nightclub in Hamburg prior to coming to the states .
Interesting read for anyone looking to become an "instant" expert at anything.
